On Saturday, May 4, 2013 the National Baseball Hall of Fame will open a new temporary exhibit, Diamond Mines, which explores the contributions of baseball scouts to the National Pastime. To celebrate the exhibit opening, visitors to the National Baseball Hall of Fame can enjoy several special programs throughout the day, including moderated discussions with baseball scouts and a special program with the Hall of Fame's John Odell, lead curator for the Diamond Mines exhibit.Full Schedule10 a.m. – Voices of the Game: Scouting the GameGrandstand TheaterJoin us for a special moderated discussion about scouts and scouting. Our panel will include include Hall of Fame executive Pat Gillick; longtime big league executive and winner of the 2011 Buck O’Neil Award Roland Hemond; Scout of the Year Program Executive Director Roberta Mazur; Miami Marlins Vice President of Player Personnel Dan Jennings, and Texas Rangers scout and senior special assistant Don Welke. Tickets for the Voices of the Game event are free but limited and must be reserved in advance by calling 607-547-0397 weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Participants in the Museum’s Membership Program can reserve tickets immediately. If any tickets remain, non-members may reserve beginning Monday, April 29. Doors will open at 9:45 a.m.11 – 1 p.m. – Mining for Talent Interactive StationLearning CenterFrom 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., visitors can drop by the Learning Center on the first floor and test their own ability to sift through data and identify baseball talent. Hall of Fame staff will present visitors with several scouting reports of some of baseball’s all-time greats, with one catch: all details identifying each future star will be removed. The challenge: choose future stars to build your team around. This program is free with museum admission.1 p.m. – Behind the ExhibitBullpen TheaterAt 1 p.m., visitors have the unique opportunity to get an inside look at the Hall of Fame’s newest exhibit, Diamond Mines. Join us for a moderated discussion with Hall of Fame curator John Odell. This program will also include a look at some of the scouting reports in the Hall of Fame’s collection. This program is included with admission to the Hall of Fame, and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Doors will open at 12:40 p.m.
